Day off dinner

The weather is finally nice! Which means I'm complaining about being hot! Holland grilled some burgers from grass fed beef we got at the farmers market.

Utah flood!

Utah has had record snowfall this year, which is great for the ski resorts - one of them is staying open until July 4th! However, this is not so great for the people who like to fly fish, because now all that snow is melting and combining with the unusual amount of rain we've had to produce flooding in a lot of the little creeks that come down the mountains.

This is a park near my house where I run. Below is a pond that is fed by one of the creeks. As you can see, it is overflowing onto the road. There were actually ducks swimming across the street!
As you can also see, the sandbags are not doing very much good. Some Vicksburgians need to show them how it's done!

These are some beautiful sunflowers that Holland got me after my first night in the ICU turned out to be a complete nightmare. It's been almost a week and a half and look how pretty they still are!

"I'm still alive" post #2

Yes, yes, I know. I'm a negligent blogger. After the horrible cough came the MICU, where I work 14 hour shifts and feel stupid and bad about myself almost every single day. Because that's just the way the MICU works. Then the cough came back. And I still have another two and a half weeks of MICU ("medical ICU") left.

I've been keeping tabs on the Mississippi River flood and, apparently, Vicksburg made the national news today! I've had numerous people message or call me to ask if my family is okay (which, thank goodness, they are). Although this flood is a terrible thing for many families and I don't at all want to minimize that, it is at the same time historic and fascinating to me as someone who grew up on the river. I'm thinking of bribing people to take daily pictures of it for me. It's made me more homesick than ever and if I were on a rotation where I had any shot at getting a weekend off, I would fly home in a heartbeat just to see it. The pictures I've seen on the Vicksburg Post's website are already so strange.
